Earlobe Reduction Surgery
Skin and tissue can stretch and sag from aging, including the earlobes. Add the stress of wearing earrings for years, and the earlobes can become noticeably longer with age. If you are self-conscious of your elongated earlobes, there is a cosmetic ear solution. Dr. Aviva Preminger is a board certified plastic surgeon in Manhattan who offers earlobe reduction surgery to reshape lobes for a more youthful appearance.
The earlobes are made from soft fatty tissue that is susceptible to sagging. Like all skin and tissue in the body, changes in collagen and elastin levels can impact the firmness of the earlobes. Petite earlobes can descend over time, hanging lower. This is very noticeable when wearing earrings, and many individuals become very self-conscious of their ears. Earlobe reduction surgery is a minimally-invasive plastic surgery that can reshape the lobes, making them smaller and more youthful.
Earlobe Reshaping Procedures
Heavy earrings, aging, trauma and genetics can all affect the shape of the earlobes. Piercings can become stretched, and the earlobes may look abnormally long over time. An earlobe lift or reshaping procedure can restore smaller, more youthful-appearing earlobes and repair stretched piercings. There are different methods for reshaping the earlobe. The technique used depends on the size or shape of the lobe and the preference of the patient.
Dr. Preminger can perform an earlobe reduction surgery using only local anesthesia. Most earlobe reshaping procedures are minimally-invasive and require little to no downtime after the surgery. Small incisions are made to trim and reshape the earlobes, with careful placement of the sutures to avoid noticeable scars. A small wedge of tissue can be removed near the connecting point, or the ends of the lobes can be trimmed. Stretched lobes from piercings can also be fixed at the same time. These procedures can be completed in our office and usually takes less than an hour.
If you have longer earlobes due to genetics, aging or trauma, an earlobe lift or reduction may be the solution to reshape your ears.
