Fox News reports that this year’s Oscar nominees got a frightful treat in their swag bag. Along with a holiday in Japan and kinky bedroom toys, the talented nominees found a voucher for a new and controversial breast enhancement treatment coined the “Vampire Breast Lift”. Of all the fabulous swag, valued at over $220,000, the Vampire Breast Lift generated the most buzz.
Does the procedure really use a woman’s own blood to boost her cleavage? How long do the results last and, more importantly, is it safe?
According to the official Vampire Breast Lift website, the in-office procedure is a great option for women who want fuller cleavage, but aren’t willing to go under the knife. The “designer procedure” was developed by the same doctor who brought you the Vampire FaceLift, which also focuses on growth factors and platelet rich plasma (PRP) to deliver rejuvenating results.
Vampire Breast Lift uses platelet rich plasma
The Vampire Breast Lift is a three-stage procedure that generally takes less than 35 minutes and requires no anesthesia. Blood is drawn from the patient using a fine gauged needle. It is then processed to separate out the platelet rich plasma (PRP), which contains stem cells. This PRP, along with dermal fillers like Juvederm or Restylane, is injected in key areas of the woman’s breast to boost cleavage and give a perkier appearance. According to the Vampire Breast Lift creator, Dr. Charles Runels, patients can expect a host of pleasant side effects as growth factors begin to kick in. Nipples will take on a rosier hue and regain lost sensation, and hyaluronic fillers give a rounded, feminine shape until the collagen production is stimulated.
The website has several videos made by certified Vampire Breast Lift providers, whose descriptions of the procedure are interestingly disparate. While most say the results can last up to two years, another claims the outcome is virtually permanent. One thing they all agree on is the convenience of this non-surgical breast enhancement. Women can have the procedure and go back to work the same day. Other than avoiding rigorous exercise or alcohol for 3 days post-treatment, there are no other restrictions.
Rounded cleavage gives a “polishing effect”
One provider commented that the Vampire Breast Lift should not be viewed as a replacement for breast implants, but rather as a complement. Breast augmentation with implants help project the bust, but does not generate a lot of cleavage, he explained. Some patients may even find they have some asymmetry they need to address. In cases like these, injections of PRP and filler are carefully placed around the perimeter of the implant, giving the surgery a more finished or “polished effect.”
Patients will notice an immediate boost in cleavage after the procedure, but the final results are evident after two months, when growth factors begin to work.
Some in the industry, including London-based plastic surgeon, Dr. Olivier Branford, argue that more research needs to be conducted to determine the safety of the Vampire Breast Lift. He also notes that repeated use of temporary injectables and tissue expansion may actually accelerate breast drooping and lead to calcification.
As with any type of plastic surgery procedure, patients should always do their research beforehand and speak candidly with a board-certified surgeon in order to make informed decisions.
