Noninvasive cosmetic treatments offer considerable benefits to men and women looking to refresh their appearance with little to no downtime or preparation. They’re less of an investment than surgery, and they can still give patients excellent improvements. Noninvasive cosmetic treatments can be performed before the signs of aging become severe. While they can’t truly reverse the aging process, nonsurgical options can delay the signs of aging and minimize their appearance.
Chemical peels
One popular choice for adults of all ages is a chemical peel. Chemical peels effectively exfoliate the top layer of skin. This minimizes imperfections, such as sun spots, acne marks, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. After the skin has healed from a chemical peel, patients notice that it feels softer and smoother, and looks more radiant and youthful.
Laser skin resurfacing
A high-tech alternative to chemical peels is laser skin resurfacing. So many people have had this noninvasive treatment because it’s remarkably effective for eliminating imperfections like wrinkles and areas of hyperpigmentation. Modern CO2 lasers use targeted columns of light to precisely target selected areas of skin. This triggers the natural ability of the body to produce new skin, collagen, and elastin for a more youthful appearance.
Compared to other noninvasive cosmetic treatments, laser skin resurfacing does require a little downtime. The recovery process isn’t nearly as lengthy or arduous as it is for a typical surgery, but patients should be careful to follow the doctor’s instructions.
Ultherapy
Ultherapy is a unique and innovative cosmetic treatment. It’s like a facelift, but without any of the disadvantages of surgery. Instead of using lasers, heat, or injections, Ultherapy uses gentle sound waves. The sound waves penetrate the skin and trigger the natural healing process. This results in firmer, tauter skin that looks years younger. Ultherapy is FDA-approved, safe, and effective.
Injectables
Under the strict definition of “noninvasive,” injectables don’t quite qualify because they do require a needle to penetrate the skin. However, injectables like Botox and dermal fillers are definitely nonsurgical, and are among the most popular cosmetic treatments. Botox is perhaps the most well-known injectable, as it’s been available for quite some time. It involves injections of a purified substance into the muscles that cause wrinkles when contracted. By inhibiting these muscles, Botox prevents the wrinkles from appearing for as long as the injection is active. Botox is commonly used to treat the deep, horizontal lines across the forehead.
Dermal fillers are another popular option. Unlike Botox, there are many different types of dermal fillers. They also work differently than Botox. Instead of acting on the muscle, a dermal filler plumps up the skin to temporarily erase wrinkles. It’s even possible to use a dermal filler to plump up the lips to get that pouty look. A plastic surgeon will determine which type is right for you.
