Sometimes, even the most diligent regimen of diet and exercise is not enough to achieve desired changes in your appearance. The strictest diet and most rigorous workout routine may not be enough to overcome stubborn fat bulges that may be influenced by other factors such as heredity or a slowing metabolism. Cosmetic surgery can remove such troublesome areas of fat through liposuction, but at Preminger Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer a less invasive alternative called CoolSculpting in Manhattan.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have approved this procedure, but this technology has been used extensively in Europe for the past several years and has built a reputation as a safe treatment option with minimal side effects, no long-term risks, and no reports of serious complications.
Here’s what you need to know about CoolSculpting
This is a non-surgical body contouring procedure that eliminates stubborn deposits of fat in target areas that have proven resistant to diet and exercise. This is accomplished by using a controlled cooling technology known as Cryolipolysis, which destroys fat cells without damaging or destroying other tissue such as skin and muscle. Once fat cells are exposed to Cryolipolysis, they crystallize and die, and are flushed out naturally by your body, leaving the target area with a more toned appearance.
Undergoing CoolSculpting is very convenient
Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes per target area. The procedure should cause no pain; you can stream a movie, or read while undergoing the procedure. You may experience some feelings of pinching, tugging, or pulling—and perhaps some temporary discomfort stemming from stinging or numbness. These feelings should be temporary and mild, as should any post-procedure discomfort such as redness, bruising, or swelling. And, unlike plastic surgery, you can resume your routine right away.
Cryolipolysis is considered a low-risk, safe, effective treatment that can produce fat reductions of almost 25 percent depending on the targeted area.
CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment
It is designed to eliminate troublesome fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. Patients who are interested in CoolSculpting should be at or near their goal weight, but look to improve the contour of their body. An ideal candidate for CoolSculpting also will be in relatively good overall health and have good skin elasticity.
CoolSculpting is not suggested for patients with disorders such as cryoglobulinemia, Raynaud’s disease, paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, or cold agglutinin disease.
