Everyone gets wrinkles as they get older. This is just part of the natural aging process. Many people, however, become dissatisfied with the way that wrinkles change their appearance. If you want to reduce or eliminate your facial wrinkles, Preminger Plastic Surgery can “turn back time” through the use of dermal fillers.
Dermal fillers operate differently than other wrinkle treatments used in cosmetic surgery, such as the use of injectables like Botox, which paralyze active muscle structures. Fillers, by contrast, plump the problematic area, resulting in a lifting that softens the appearance of the wrinkles.
Dermal fillers – How they work
Some fillers can be administered via injection. Injectable fillers most commonly are used to plump lips or enhance areas of the face that may look hollow. They also can be used to soften fine lines and wrinkles or to improve the appearance of scars that have settled. Fillers also can be an ideal treatment choice for individuals who have aesthetic concerns but also want to avoid having an invasive surgery. In fact, filler treatments involve no scarring because of the minimal invasiveness.
Am I a good candidate?
Fillers are not for everyone. A good candidate for fillers has good overall health and is a non-smoker. Patients also need to have realistic expectations about the outcome of a filler procedure. Receiving fillers will not achieve the same results as a facelift or forehead lift. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Aviva Preminger, will be frank with you during your consultation as to what dermal fillers can and cannot do.
Getting started
Before beginning a filler treatment, Dr. Preminger will evaluate your facial structure and skin tone. This evaluation serves as a diagnostic tool to locate the ideal locations where the filler should be placed for maximum results. Before receiving the filler injections, you can have a topical numbing cream applied to help make sure there is no discomfort during the procedure. The process of injecting the fillers could take 15 minutes up to an hour, depending on how many different areas are being treated.
After a filler injection, patients should use an ice pack to reduce any swelling that may take place. Patients can resume their normal routine immediately following a filler procedure. Results often are immediate following these treatments, but this is dependent on where the treatment is administered and what types of fillers are being used.
Dermal fillers in NYC
At Preminger Plastic Surgery we offer the latest and most effective varieties of dermal fillers, including Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, and Belotero. We also can perform lip injections or autologous fat transfers, which involves taking fat from another area of the body, and is then injected into the facial area where volume wants to be added.
As always, make sure you are comfortable with your plastic surgeon before having any cosmetic procedure performed. Your initial consultation is a crucial part of this comfort level. This is the time you should feel free to ask any questions you may have about a procedure, and also request to see pictures with examples of your surgeon’s work on other patients.
