A square jawline is an admirable feature for most guys, but women tend to prefer a softer, more feminine contour. In the past, plastic surgery was the only way to effectively address this issue, but times have changed and Botox has proven to be an excellent solution. When injected into key muscles, Botox relaxes enlarged masseter muscles, giving a rounder, more heart-shaped jawline that is favored by most women.
Bethanny Frankel, who stars in The Real Housewives of New York, recently had Botox jaw reduction and is thrilled with the results. Frankel appeared at DailyMail.com’s 2016 Newfronts with a drastic new look, prompting speculations of a nip and tuck. She spilled her secret with the crowd, explaining that Botox helped her achieve a softer look around the jaw. Frankel added that her decision was not driven by vanity, but rather years of painful teeth grinding, which caused tension and the muscles to bulk up over the years.
Botox for a more feminine jawline
“About three years ago, my dermatologist said to me, why don’t we try injecting your jaw because it’s so tense,” Frankel explained. The star’s before and after photos are truly amazing, showing a major reduction in the width of her lower jaw.
Botox is considered a minimally-invasive lunch hour procedure as it entails no anesthesia, no downtime and is well-tolerated by the majority of patients. The entire treatment takes less than 25 minutes, and most people are back to work or their normal daily routine right away. The most common side effects of Botox injections include redness at the injection site, slight bruising and swelling – all of which subside very quickly. The only downside to Botox for a smaller jawline is that the results are not permanent. Patients will need to return for touch-ups every 4-6 months.
Botox revolutionizes facial contouring
In the past, men and women who were dissatisfied with a strong or square-shaped jaw had only one option: jaw reduction surgery. When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, the operation could still yield inconsistent results and the recovery period was often lengthy. Botox, which is most commonly used around the brow and forehead to smooth out wrinkles and crow’s feet, has proven to be an excellent tool for facial reshaping in the right candidates.
In some patients, their chewing muscle (masseter) can become enlarged by tooth grinding and chewing forces, creating extra width. Botox functions by weakening this muscle, which causes it to shrink and taper down. After the jaw muscle has atrophied for some time, its physical bulk becomes less prominent, providing a softer, more feminine contour.
With repeated Botox treatments, the masseter muscle will continue to grow smaller and weaker, allowing patients to stretch their touch-ups over longer periods of time.

Bruxism, or teeth clenching, affects thousands of people, some of which aren’t pleased with the secondary side effects of a wide-set jawline. Botox may alleviate the discomfort and aesthetic impacts of TMJ, when expertly administered.
