Motherhood is amazing, but it can also be incredibly difficult. After giving birth, you may be frustrated in the ways that pregnancy changed your body, such as stubborn deposits of baby weight or sagging breasts. Some women are able to address these changes through diet and exercise, but not everyone is so lucky. At Preminger Plastic Surgery, we believe every mother should feel happy and confident about themselves. That’s why we offer the mommy makeover, a customized process that combines multiple plastic surgery procedures into a single appointment, simultaneously addressing several aesthetic issues. This is one of the most popular treatments we offer, but before undergoing a mommy makeover in Manhattan, you need to make sure you’re well-informed. That’s why Dr. B. Aviva Preminger put together this list of nine things you need to know about this procedure.
Wait on your makeover until you’re done having children
Plastic surgery can help transform your appearance, but subsequent pregnancies following the procedure can undo all the physical changes from your mommy makeover.
Expect to have multiple procedures done
Having a baby can be a beautiful thing, but it can leave mothers longing for their pre-pregnancy figure. A typical mommy makeover combines different surgeries in one to limit the post-operative recovery period. While each patient’s needs vary, it is typical for a mommy makeover to include liposuction, a tummy tuck, and breast augmentation or a breast lift.
Be at or near your ideal weight
Any skin lift or tummy tuck should never be considered a substitute for a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and regular exercise. You should be at or near your goal weight before your mommy makeover.
You can add other procedures
Do you have aesthetic issues that go beyond your tummy and breasts? Dr. Preminger and her team also can perform liposuction, non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers, and any other desired procedure as part of your mommy makeover.
Your mommy makeover will be unique
No two people are alike, and Dr. Preminger tailors each mommy makeover to the wants and needs of the individual. In addition to being able to combine different procedures as part of your makeover, the duration of the process can vary, although a typical mommy makeover takes between three and six hours to complete.
You should be able to go home the same day
Dr. Preminger is able to perform the vast majority of mommy makeovers on an outpatient basis. Before you know it, you’ll recuperate at home where you can be more comfortable.
Expect to take it easy for a couple of weeks after surgery
Everyone heals differently following surgery, but the typical downtime before resuming your normal routine is between one and two weeks. You can also resume light exercise at about the two-week mark but should refrain from strenuous activity until you’re roughly six weeks removed from your mommy makeover. Dr. Preminger will advise you of the specific restraints specific to your healing.
Timing matters
Because you’ll need to focus on resting and healing after your mommy makeover, you want to schedule it at a time you’ll have some help managing your household—such as when your partner can take over, or a family member or friend can come for a visit. Determine these logistics prior to your surgery, and then schedule your mommy makeover accordingly.
Schedule a consultation
Like any surgery, a mommy makeover should be taken seriously, and choosing to have it is a big decision. Never choose a plastic surgeon who does not meet with you for a consultation before any work begins. Dr. Preminger insists on a consultation with each of her prospective patients. At this appointment, she will review your health history and aesthetic goals, ensuring you are a good fit for a mommy makeover.
