The coronavirus pandemic affected everyone’s life in many ways. Sheltering in place for months on end lead many people to overeat while spending too much time binging on Netflix. As life returns to “normal,” you may still find that you would rather hide at home because your body isn’t as flattering as it was before the pandemic. If you’re searching for ways to get rid of belly fat, Dr. Preminger has three options that may help. Today on the blog, our Manhattan plastic surgeon shares three treatments to help you get your body confidence back after the pandemic.
While maintaining a healthy diet and regularly exercising is one of the best ways to reduce fat and build muscle mass, certain areas of the body prove resistant to these stringent lifestyle modifications. If you struggle with excess abdominal fat, Dr. Preminger offers non-invasive and surgical options to help you look and feel your best.
CoolSculpting
This non-invasive treatment option freezes fat cells and comes with no downtime. It’s an in-office treatment that takes place in 1-3 hours, depending on the number of areas treated. The FDA-cleared device is placed over the abdominal region and gets to work freezing fat cells using extreme cold temperatures. Following your session, the cells crystalize and break down, and the body naturally eliminates the cells over the course of about 8 weeks. CoolSculpting does not require an anesthetic or any incisions. You should be able to return to your daily activities following your appointment. This non-invasive fat reduction treatment is ideal for patients within a few pounds of their ideal weight, although it is not intended for significant weight loss. CoolSculpting results may be permanent if you adapt to a healthy lifestyle of eating nutritious food and exercising regularly.
Liposuction Options
Dr. Preminger offers traditional surgical liposuction, as well as the newer fat-reducing option called smart lipo (also known as laser lipo). Surgical liposuction is ideal for patients that wish to have more immediate results and that are willing to undergo surgery. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that reduces unwanted pockets of fat and is ideal for treating lower belly pooch and the abdominal area. Recovery and downtime may require that you rest for about a week before returning to work, and it may take 8-12 weeks for swelling to resolve. Candidates or surgical liposuction should be within 10 percent of the ideal body weight and can maintain results with proper diet and exercise.
Smart lipo produces similar results as surgical liposuction but without a lengthy recovery. It still requires an anesthetic, although it is an in-office procedure. Smart lipo reduces pockets of fat and creates smooth body contours without a lengthy recovery period. An additional benefit is that smart lipo helps tighten loose skin that may be stretched and saggy as a result of significant weight loss or pregnancy. Most patients return to work within a week or less, and swelling and bruising typically resolve in a few weeks.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck is a more invasive surgical procedure that not only removes excess abdominal fat and loose skin but tightens the abdominal muscles to produce a tight and slender midsection. Mini tummy tucks address only the upper area of the abdominal, while a full tummy tuck recontours the entire abdominal section. In many cases, liposuction is combined with a tummy tuck to achieve the best results. The procedure may take 2-4 hours and is completed at Dr. Preminger’s boutique surgical suite located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. You can expect to return to work after about 2 weeks, and swelling should resolve within 2-3 months, revealing the contoured midsection you desire.
