Planning for any surgical procedure can be difficult when you have an incredibly busy schedule. Shifting things around in your daily home or work responsibilities can be a hassle but is necessary when you undergo breast augmentation. Just as with any other surgery, your body must have time to heal from the procedure. In today’s blog, Preminger Plastic Surgery is sharing with you some tips on finding the best time to schedule your surgery.

Start with a Consultation

Your first step is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon on the Upper East Side of Manhattan at Preminger Plastic Surgery. After a thorough examination with Dr. Aviva Preminger, she will discuss with you the steps of the procedure and ensure that all your questions are answered. At that time, you will discuss the size of the implants, the type, and where the incision will be made for the procedure. Once you have all the information, then you can determine whether breast augmentation is right for you.

Planning Time Off

Once you make the decision to proceed with the surgery, you will need to begin planning for time away from work, as well as your responsibilities at home. There is no need to share with other co-workers what surgical procedure you are having or why you will be missing work for a short time, unless you want to. If you wish to keep the surgery private, you can politely decline to discuss the situation with them, stating you have a personal matter you must address.

Depending on your body’s ability to heal from surgery, you will need to take a minimum of one week off work for the procedure. Therefore, ideally, you wouldn’t want to schedule your time off during your company’s peak time of year or around important deadlines. When speaking to your employer about time off, you will also need to discuss the type of time off you will be taking, such as vacation days, sick days, or Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA). If your job requires heavy lifting, you will need to discuss your work restrictions upon your return as well.

Planning for Help

Since you will have restrictions in your movements after the procedure, such as lifting your arms, lifting heavy objects, or avoiding vigorous exercise, you will need someone to help you during your recovery process while at home. If you have young children, you will not be allowed to pick them up and will need some assistance with their care. Also, if you are taking narcotic pain relievers, you will not be able to drive to or from your doctor’s appointments or to run errands. You should plan on having a trusted individual stay with you for the first couple of days following your surgery, and to assist with your children, pets, or household duties for the first week. Strenuous activities should be avoided for at least six weeks. Keep this in mind if you have a physically demanding job.

Planning for Seasons

Keep in mind that your implants will need time to “settle in,” and your body will be adjusting to your new breasts. You will need several weeks of healing time to ensure that you are comfortable showing off your body. Therefore, it may be best to schedule your procedure during the winter months when it’s less likely that you will be wearing a swimsuit. That way, when the spring and summer arrive, you will be ready to put on new swimwear and other summer attire that may accentuate your new chest size.
