Trends in Male Plastic Surgery: Tie Tucks

As detailed in a recent issue of Hollywood Reporter, there’s a new trend in male plastic surgery that’s garnering lots of attention from Hollywood royalty. The so-called “Tie Tuck” can help guys achieve the sculpted jawlines sported by Tom Brady, Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig. If a sagging jaw line has been bothering you, this minimally-invasive procedure may be an effective option for sprucing up those jiggly jowls that tend to droop more with age.

The Tie Tuck is supposed to lift and tighten the skin and tissue along the jaw, where pockets of fat tend to accumulate during middle age. Loose facial tissues, or “jowls” are common in both men and women in their 40’s and beyond, and are a natural part of the aging process as fat pads from the cheeks make their slow descent downward.

The Tie Tuck is a means of helping men turn back the clock by providing a more contoured, sculpted jawline.

What is a Tie Tuck for Men?

The Tie Tuck is a two-hour multi-faceted procedure that targets both stubborn fat pockets and sagging skin around the chin and jaw. The first part includes tissue tightening and collagen remodeling with Ultherapy and radiofrequency energy. Botox or Dysport is then injected to weaken the muscles that draw the face downward, giving the appearance of wider jowls. The procedure also uses one of the latest injectables – Kybella – to blast away fatty deposits seen in double chins. Lastly, dermal fillers such as Radiesse or Juvederm may be used to plump up creases left from drooping fat pads. The end result is a more youthful, defined jawline. Men can maintain their results with periodic laser toning and Botox.

Other options for a contoured neck and jawline

The Tie Tuck may be appropriate for men who aren’t quite ready to go under the knife, or simply prefer a less invasive approach to looking younger. At the office of Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. B. Aviva Preminger, we offer numerous solutions to men and women who are bothered by “jowls” or a “turkey neck.” When lunch-time treatments like injectables and Ultherapy fail to get the desired result, patients may benefit from one or a combination of the following procedures:

  • Liposuction around the jaw line
  • Neck lift, offering results that last 10 or more years
  • Lower facelift to tighten skin and reduce sagging near the jaw and neck

There are numerous factors including the patient’s age, skin type, anatomy and desired outcome, that will determine which type of surgery or treatment is best for getting a chiseled jaw line.
